EASY 10 POINTS: Can someone help me with this grammar error?

Which one is correct:
The dog has spent most of his life as a guide for the elderly.
Or
The dog had spent most of his life as a guide for the elderly.

has spent if the dog is still around.. if not then its had
depending if the dog is still alive…
alive:
HAS
dead:
HAD
The dog HAS spent most of his life as a guide for the elderly.
Everything has to be in the same tense.
Pressent tense: HAS
If you’re referring to your dog whom is currently guiding the elderly then you would use HAS.
Past tense: HAD
If you’re referring to your dog whom is no longer guiding the elderly then you would use HAD.
